Garlic Bread

The beauty of garlic bread is that it can be altered easily to create a taste that suits you. Start with the basic garlic butter recipe and go from there.

Ingredients

Garlic Butter

  • 1 cup or 220g butter (salted or unsalted)
  • 4 large cloves minced or crushed Garlico garlic
  • ¼ tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • Choice of sourdough,Vienna, baguette or single serve rolls,

Blackball Black Garlic Butter

  • 4 cloves of Blackball black garlic or 1 ½ teaspoons Blackball black garlic paste
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1/3 cup grated parmesan cheese (optional)

Preparation

Garlic Butter

Soften the butter and mix in the garlic until it is evenly distributed throughout the butter.

Add black pepper and any additional herbs or flavourings and mix well.

Note: Experiment with ½ - 1 tsp garlic powder if you don’t like the texture of raw garlic.  Add ½ teaspoon of garlic salt if using unsalted butter.  Add a few tablespoons of fresh seasonal herbs or a teaspoon or two of dried mixed herbs.  For a decadent garlic butter, you can add some freshly grated parmesan cheese to the mix.

Soften the butter and mix in the garlic until it is evenly distributed throughout the butter.

Add the cheese if using

Slice a baguette in half lengthways and spread with the butter.

Bake uncovered in a pre-heated hot oven for 5 – 10 minutes until the butter is melted and the bread is browned and hot.

 

Note: Black garlic is another superfood and is bursting with antioxidants.

Garlic Bread

For hot, pull apart garlic bread choose a crusty loaf such as sourdough, Vienna or baguette or single-serve rolls, and slice partway through in approx. 1cm widths.  

Spread the butter generously between the slices. Wrap the whole loaf in tinfoil and bake in a pre-heated hot oven (about 200 C) for 8 - 10 minutes.
